Swedish-born rider Rebecca Bronett Prag reached an exciting new milestone at Rosehill on Saturday, guiding country-trained stayer Knights Armour to her maiden Saturday city success.

Apprenticed to Canberra-based horseman Keith Dryden, Bronett Prag had just 19 prior metropolitan rides under her belt and was thrilled to notch her second city win, again aboard the consistent Knights Armour, who also delivered her first midweek victory in May at Warwick Farm.

She described the result as “very special”, especially with how close the finish was.

“I wasn’t sure that I got it but it’s very special, especially on this horse that I’ve had a lot of luck with,” Bronett Prag said.

“This is our fifth win together now so it’s great and especially for the owner who only trains one horse and is doing a fantastic job with him.”

Trained and part-owned by Ross Lavis out of Braidwood, Knights Armour was tackling the 2400m journey for the first time in the Mostyn Cooper Handicap and handled it with aplomb, running out the trip strongly to score by half a length.

Lavis had faith in the horse’s stamina and described him as a warrior who never gives up.

Jumping at $12, Knights Armour edged out Good Banter ($4.80) while Fioprospero ($6) finished third, one length back. Lavis, who also straps the gelding, was delighted by the performance.

Bronett Prag, who began her equestrian journey riding ponies in Sweden, made the move to Australia a decade ago to expand her racing experience. The decision has clearly paid off, with Saturday marking her most significant win to date.

“I have almost outridden my claim in the country so I am starting to get a few opportunities and I’ll see where it will take me,” she said.
