Damien Oliver hopeful of riding at Caulfield

Champion jockey Damien Oliver has been cleared of major injury following a barrier mishap at Warrnambool on Thursday.

While Oliver has stood down from riding at The Valley meeting on Friday, the 11-time Scobie Breasley Medialist is hopeful of riding at Caulfield on Saturday.

Oliver had precautionary scans on Thursday night after Erekwini flipped over in the barriers in final event at Warrnambool.

“Good news from Warrnambool hospital is that scans on Damien Oliver’s neck have returned clear of any fracture,” the Victorian Jockeys’ Association said in a statement.

Oliver is booked for seven rides on Saturday including the James Cummings-trained Godolphin pair of Minouche in the John Moule Handicap (1400m) and Renosu in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) who are both listed as favourites with TAB in their respective races.

Meanwhile in Hong Kong,Luke Currie is set to miss riding at Happy Valley on Sunday after a fall at the barrier trials at Sha Tin on Friday.

Currie was sent to hospital for precautionary scans which cleared him of serious injury, although he is expected to remain in hospital with concussion.

Under Hong Kong rules, Currie will be stood down from riding for seven days.
