The Ciaron Maher stable may have dominated the Big Dance, but the job might not be done just yet, with both Vivy Air and Lugh still in the mix to contest Saturday’s $2 million Five Diamonds at Rosehill.
The stable secured a 1-2-3 finish in Tuesday’s race, and assistant trainer Jo Gerard-Dubord said the stable is monitoring how both horses recover.
Vivy Air, who won her way in via the Big Dance Wild Card, again showed her honesty finishing runner-up.
“She’s very tough and very straightforward,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“The extra distance is ideal for her and mares in form can hold form.”
Lugh, who returned this spring after more than a year away from racing, impressed when sticking on after leading.
“He’s still learning and improving,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“He had to do some work early in the Big Dance and he didn’t give in.”
Saturday’s race brings an interstate challenge, with Transatlantic heading the market and British visitor Bullet Point making the trip for William Haggas and jockey Cieren Fallon.
