Diddle Dumpling makes a meal of rivals at Rosehill

Promising mare Diddle Dumpling has raised hopes of a stakes return after securing a strong on-pace win at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou-trained galloper showed improvement in her racing manners this campaign, controlling the race in front and holding on for a determined victory in the The Agency Real Estate Handicap (1300m).

“She has settled a lot in the brain this time around,” Ryan said post-race.

“She’s stronger and more settled. She always had the talent but was her own worst enemy. This time she’s racing more tractably.”

Owned by John Singleton, the four-year-old mare took her career wins tally to four from 13 starts, saluting by a length from Golden Straand ($13), with Codetta ($5.50) close behind in third.

Ryan suggested she may target some mares’ stakes races in the early spring if she continues to improve.

“She likes the sting out of the ground, so a couple of those August-September races for mares could suit her,” he said.

Later in the card, Storm The Ramparts extended his excellent recent form, winning a sprint with authority under 62.5kg for trainer Joe Pride.

“He’s been in terrific form since we treated a shoulder issue and gave him a proper spell,” Pride said.

“We’ll consider the July Sprint next – he’s earned a shot.”

Storm The Ramparts held First Landing and Pokerjack at bay to record his third win this prep.
