Jason Warren is aiming Flyer towards a run in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm on June 14, but the promising filly must first earn her way there with a win at Caulfield this weekend.
Warren has Flyer nominated for three races on Saturday’s Caulfield program—the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m), a 1200m three-year-old handicap, and a fillies and mares benchmark 78 over the same trip. She’s also entered for a benchmark 78 at Rosehill as a back-up option.
“We’ve put her in a few races, but our focus is on the three-year-old handicap at Caulfield,” Warren said. “It’s a heat of the Creswick Sprint Series, she’s in well at the weights with 55kg, and it gives her the right platform to go to Queensland.”
Flyer returned to form with a strong run behind Cleo Cat in the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes at Morphettville last start. That followed a tough outing on a heavy track at Moonee Valley, which Warren said did not suit the filly.
“She just needed firmer ground to show her best,” he said. “We weren’t happy with how she came up last preparation, so we gave her time. Now she’s in great order and showed that with her last run.”
Warren remains hopeful of heading to Brisbane, but is aware it all depends on Saturday’s result. “She has to win to be in the Dane Ripper, so we need everything to go right and a good surface again,” he added.
If she qualifies, Flyer could prove a competitive runner in the Dane Ripper and potentially feature in Queensland’s Winter Carnival. For those keen to back her journey north, check out top odds from Australian betting sites.
