Forgotten Memo poised to rebound in 2025 Magic Night Stakes

Peter Snowden is optimistic about Memo’s chances in the Magic Night Stakes following her first unplaced run in five starts. The filly had shown promise early in her career, including a strong second in the Magic Millions Classic, but her recent effort in the Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) was below expectations.

Snowden believes her performance was impacted by a lack of fitness, as it was her first race in six weeks. “She did get galloped on, but she only had a small mark on her and was a little bit stiff behind, nothing significant,” he explained. “She wasn’t beaten far, three lengths, and she will be better for that run. She can turn that around.”

Memo is currently a $12 chance for the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and $51 for the Golden Slipper. While a win on Saturday could lead to a quick backup, Snowden is focusing on the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) on April 12. “The Percy Sykes is the race we’re looking for,” he said. “I never really thought she was a Slipper type of filly, but we’ll get through Saturday first.”

Memo will be accompanied by Flying From Above in the Phar Lap Stakes (1500m). Snowden admitted the three-year-old faces a significant step up in class after joining his stable from Anthony Cummings. “It’s a huge jump in class on Saturday,” he said. “He worked quite nicely on Tuesday, and we’ll learn more after the weekend.”
