
Grandstand Cup Day at Ascot provided racegoers with an exciting opportunity to celebrate retired racehorses, as Racing WA’s Off the Track WA program took center stage.
In collaboration with Perth Racing, the event showcased the diverse capabilities of retired racehorses, emphasizing their smooth transition into new careers. Visitors had the chance to interact with former racehorses, learn about their new roles, and enjoy a range of family-friendly entertainment.
Racing WA Animal Welfare Operations Manager Kay Fuller expressed the significance of the event in promoting retired racehorses and Racing WA’s rehoming efforts.
“Off the Track WA is dedicated to supporting racehorses beyond their racing careers, and working alongside Perth Racing to celebrate their new paths was truly rewarding,” Kay said.
“It was wonderful to see so many people engaging with the horses. Many attendees don’t often get close interactions with them, and this event offered a special way to experience their gentle and adaptable personalities.”
Perth Racing CEO James Oldring highlighted the club’s commitment to equine welfare and its role in promoting life after racing.
“We were proud to make Grandstand Cup Day a celebration of retired racehorses and to showcase the vital work done by Off the Track WA in securing their futures,” James said.
“It was heartening to see the community’s enthusiasm in learning about equine welfare beyond the racetrack.”
