Lucy Fiore is riding high on a wave of success and is quickly closing in on a significant milestone, nearing her second career century of winners.
After a stellar treble at Ascot last Saturday, which included a feature race victory, Fiore has pushed her season tally to 74 wins, showcasing her exceptional riding skills.
Fiore guided Generosity to victory in the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m), while also securing wins aboard Brazen Empress and WA Derby contender Sail Session.
Currently sitting fourth in the Western Australian jockey’s premiership, Fiore trails Chris Parnham, Clint Johnston-Porter, and William Pike.
Fiore is also on track to surpass her career-best tally of 102 wins, a record she set during her standout 2015/16 season as an apprentice, her first full season after debuting in Albany.
Fiore made a remarkable start to her career, outriding her claim faster than any other junior rider in Western Australia just 17 months after her first race.
Fiore is thrilled to be back among the top jockeys and credits her resurgence to hard work and dedication.
“I’m aiming for 100 wins this season,” Fiore said on Tabradio.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve reached that milestone.
“I probably haven’t applied myself as much in previous seasons as I have this year.
“You have to work hard, travel everywhere, and put in the effort, and it all starts to come together.
“It’s great to be back in this position, but it’s definitely taken a lot more effort.
“I just have to keep pushing, keep working, and hopefully, it all falls into place.”
Fiore’s recent success includes a victory aboard Glasgow Lass in the Ascot 1000 Guineas (1800m) two weeks ago, a win that bolstered the filly’s WA Oaks campaign.
Trained by Mitch Pateman, the three-year-old daughter of Alabama Express broke through for a valuable black-type win, overcoming a series of setbacks on and off the track.
Fiore and Glasgow Lass will now aim for further stakes success in Saturday’s Natasha Stakes (2200m), a key stepping stone toward the Oaks.
“It’s been a new challenge every time,” Fiore said.
“She’s stepped up in class and distance each time.
“She’s definitely up to the task, and I’m looking forward to riding her on Saturday.”
