Invincible Son out to take G1 Blue Diamond Stakes step

Robbie Griffiths is expecting to see further improvement from Invincible Son when the colt returns to the races at Caulfield on Saturday.

The youngster made a promising debut when finishing third to Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unit Five at Caulfield Heath and now steps up to the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m).

Griffiths said the performance gave him confidence heading toward the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes later in February.

“It’s hard to know exactly how much he got out of his first run because he hadn’t been back to the barriers until Monday,” Griffiths said.

“But I thought his trial was very good and Guest House is a quality horse.

“He had to do a bit of work from the draw first-up and still ran well, so that was encouraging.”

Griffiths said the colt’s wide gate on debut forced him to spend energy early, something he hopes to avoid this time around.

“He drew outside and had to burn fuel to get into it,” he said.

“From barrier one this time, Jamie cane should be able to let him find his feet and give him every chance.”

The trainer added that the roomier Caulfield track should suit the colt better than the tighter Heath circuit.

“Most Cranbourne horses appreciate a bit of space, and I think he’ll be more comfortable this time.”

Those following the race can find markets available via leading Australian betting sites.
