Joliestar claimed her second Group 1 victory in the Newmarket Handicap at Flemington, giving Chris Waller his second win in the prestigious sprint race.
Waller made a strategic move by shifting Joliestar to Melbourne, while Switzerland was sent to Sydney for the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes. Joliestar, the $3.40 favourite, delivered a stunning performance, winning by 1-¼ lengths over Headwall ($14), with Stretan Angel ($12) third.
Joliestar’s victory marked a return to Melbourne since her win in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last year. With her electric turn of foot, Joliestar has become one of the top sprinters in the country.
Trainer Waller’s careful planning and horse management continue to deliver results, with Charlie Duckworth praising Waller’s ability to maximise horses’ potential and value.
