The Boss Lady’s campaign began in style with a win in the Roma Cup (1100m) and ended just as impressively with a commanding performance in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) at Pinjarra.
It marked her third career stakes victory, alongside the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m), and brings her career earnings close to $1 million from 11 wins in 20 starts.
Shaun McGruddy piloted the Michael Lane-trained mare to a strong finish, defeating Magnificent Andy by a neck, with West Star just behind in third.
Trainer Michael Lane believes the mare still has improvement to come. “I always said she would get better with age,” Lane told Tabradio. “I’ve got no doubt in my mind. I don’t think she’s at her peak yet. What we’ve seen this prep; she’s raised the bar.”
“She doesn’t have to improve much and she’s on an upwards spiral,” he added, expressing his optimism for her next campaign.
Lane confirmed The Boss Lady will remain in Western Australia for the Winterbottom Stakes and Gold Rush later this year. “Definitely staying home for the moment,” he said.
He noted the rescheduling of the Belmont Sprint to Pinjarra proved beneficial. “She’d rather be on the fresh side a bit… she felt enormous,” Lane said.
Lane also notched a second winner on the day with Six Shooter scoring in race nine.
