After an underwhelming Hong Kong debut with Mr Brightside, the Lindsay Park stable is turning its attention back home with the Warrnambool jumps carnival next on the radar.

Mr Brightside, who ran last in the Group 1 Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin, pulled up in good condition according to a stable social media post.

“Mr B has pulled up well and is already home in his box getting stuck into his dinner,” they posted.

“After today he will spend a couple of weeks in quarantine in Australia before travelling home to Euroa.”

It was the worst performance in the gelding’s decorated 44-race career, nearly all of which has been with Lindsay Park.

Tuesday’s Warrnambool meeting sees the team fielding seven runners, headlined by Port Guillaume in the Brierly Steeplechase (3450m).

While Lindsay Park had success on the flat at last year’s carnival, a feature jumps win is now firmly in their sights—a fitting goal given the stable’s historic link to jumping through Colin Hayes.

Ben Hayes explained that the team, along with Tom Ryan, decided the Brierly was a better option than the Galleywood Hurdle, where the gelding ran second in 2023.

Port Guillaume, originally bought for spring Cups glory, has been schooling well since transitioning to jumps in 2022 and was third at Pakenham earlier this month.

“That was his first race (this time in), and he was still getting used to them,” Hayes said.

“His first couple, he didn’t jump them well, but his last couple were his best.

“We have schooled him since and he schooled a lot better, and he’s woken up and now knows what he is to be expecting.

“We had a good talk to Tom about him, and he said to stay with the steeples. His last few were his best jumps and it’s all a confidence thing with him.”
