Simon Miller knows the challenge awaiting Generosity in the Group 1 Goodwood (1200m) is significant, but the Ascot trainer believes the talented mare has earned her shot at elite company in Adelaide on Saturday.
Generosity heads east to take on sprinting heavyweight Giga Kick after proving herself among Western Australia’s best with a Listed victory in the Sheila Gwynne Classic (1200m) and a bold third-place finish in the Quokka (1200m).
That Quokka run, where she loomed as a serious threat before being overhauled late, confirmed to Miller that she deserved a chance at Group 1 level interstate.
“She’s a beauty,” Miller told RSN.
“Not many horses enjoy high pressure and can then absorb it and quicken.
“That’s her greatest asset, but unfortunately most of the races she’s been over here (Perth) have been sort of sit and sprints.
“You saw the best version of her in the Quokka and if they run along at a nice clip on Saturday, she’ll be there as well.”
Miller has previously attempted the Goodwood with three others and believes Generosity, from barrier five with Lucy Fiore riding at just 52.5kg, is his best chance yet.
He’s also hoping for a feature race double this weekend, with West Star lining up in the Northam Stakes (1300m) on Sunday. Fiore will return to ride him after her Adelaide mission.
“She’s airborne at the moment,” Miller said of Fiore.
“It was a no brainer to send her to Adelaide for us… She’ll come back and ride that for me as well.”
West Star, a three-year-old by Playing God, has a spring campaign in Melbourne lined up. He won the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and has only missed the placings once—in the Quokka.
Generosity, who cost just $9,000 as a weanling, has already banked nearly $1 million in prize money. She’s currently rated a $17 outsider behind Goodwood favourite Giga Kick ($2), with Charm Stone and Ameena at $8.
