Mr Brightside could soon be heading west to chase more riches, with connections eyeing off a start at The Pinnacles carnival in Perth later this year.
The Lindsay Park team of Ben, Will and JD Hayes has nominated the multiple Group 1 winner for the $1.5 million Group 3 The Gold Rush (1400m) at Ascot on December 13.
Ben Hayes said the team is keeping options open, with a decision to be made following Mr Brightside’s upcoming runs in the Champions Mile (1600m) at Flemington and potentially the C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield a week later.
“We’ve put him in the noms for Perth, and the thinking is that they’ve moved the Orr to being a week after the Champions Mile,” Hayes said.
“We just think that his prep in the autumn there is only the Futurity and the All-Star Mile and then you either go to 2000 (metres) or head to Sydney for the Doncaster Mile or the All-Aged Stakes.”
Hayes said any trip west would act as a bridge between campaigns and keep the gelding fit ahead of the autumn.
“If we do go to Perth, it keeps him ticking over from spring to the autumn,” he said. “It’s a good opportunity to keep his fitness up and hit the Futurity really fit.”
Travelling interstate is nothing new for the Hayes family, with both Colin and David Hayes having enjoyed success in Perth in years past.
“The trip over, it brings horses on,” Hayes said. “You can argue his trip to Hong Kong improved him. He’s come back in career best form.”
Alongside Mr Brightside, Lindsay Park has also nominated Evaporate, War Machine, Arkansaw Kid, Apulia, Alenquer, Here To Shock and Marble Arch for key Perth races including the Railway Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes, Northerly Stakes and The Gold Rush.
