Pride Of Jenni will be heading back to Victoria accompanied by stablemate Jennilala, with owner Tony Ottobre taking no chances by dispatching one of his team to oversee the trip. Ottobre wants to ensure the high-class mare arrives home safely on his Mornington Peninsula property where her condition will be carefully assessed before any firm decision is made on her racing future.
Despite her age, Ottobre is not yet ready to consider retirement for the multiple Group-winning mare and hopes she will return for a Spring campaign, with the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes (1600m) at Randwick a primary target. “She’s coming back on a truck and (Jenni) Lala is coming as well and once we get her here, we’ll assess where she’s at and how’s going and make a decision from there,” Ottobre told SENTrack. “At the moment her future is fine and rosy.”
Ottobre praised her preparation this year, citing her wins in the Group 2 Peter Young Stakes (1800m) and Listed Anniversary Vase, carrying a hefty 61kg. Although unplaced in two recent Group 1s, Ottobre remains upbeat: “You only retire a horse when they have had enough and don’t want to run anymore. They’ll tell you.”
