The up-and-coming horseman Nacim Dilmi is gaining ground with Domeland courtesy of I Am Carrot’s 30th career victory for the stable, earned through a sharp display at Randwick Kensington.
After his time at Godolphin, Dilmi commenced as the exclusive trainer for the entity’s racing and breeding pursuits this term, registering a 19 per cent strike rate.
I Am Carrot advanced the cause Wednesday with a resolute victory in the Kia Central Region Dealer Of The Year Handicap (1300m), and now Dilmi eyes stakes possibilities in the Brisbane winter series.
“It’s good to get another win out of the way,” Dilmi said.
“I don’t want to step up in grade too soon, but he’ll go to Queensland after this and hopefully we can find a nice race for him like the Fred Best (Classic), or another stakes race towards the end of the Queensland carnival.
“Obviously if the field is a bit strong or he needs more time I won’t rush him into it, but so far he is doing the right things to put his hand up for Queensland.”
Jason Collett was in the saddle as I Am Carrot ($4.20) hit the line hardest, winning by three-quarters of a length from Alphard ($6), with Events ($14) third another length back.
Dilmi explained that the gelding procedure for I Am Carrot at three-year-old entry was vital, spurring three wins and two runner-up efforts over his last five efforts.
The Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) is at Eagle Farm on May 30.
