Group 2 winner Savvy Hallie will target the lucrative $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight as her first major assignment before turning to Sydney’s autumn features.
Trainer Brad Widdup has confirmed the promising filly has secured a slot for the January 10 event at the Gold Coast and is progressing well after a quiet Warwick Farm trial earlier in the month.
She will trial again before tackling the Sunlight (1100m) first-up.
“She’s aiming at the Sunlight. She’s got B2B’s slot there,” Widdup said.
“She will have another trial and go in first-up. She is a top-class filly and it’s a $3 million race, so why not?”
Savvy Hallie showed her quality early, running placings in two Group races as a two-year-old. This season she broke her maiden at Newcastle then captured the Silver Shadow Stakes before finishing third to Apocalyptic in the Furious Stakes.
Connections ended her spring early with the Queensland feature in mind.
“That’s why they stopped with her instead of pushing through the spring,” Widdup explained.
“She looks great and if she has improved that little bit, she will be pretty exciting.”
Nashville Jack will also represent the stable in the Sunlight, joining Savvy Hallie in Widdup’s dual-pronged attack.
Last year’s inaugural running saw Private Harry score before going on to win the Group 1 Galaxy, while Lady Of Camelot backed up strongly through Sydney’s major autumn fillies’ races.
The Light Fingers Stakes shapes as the autumn target for Savvy Hallie after her Magic Millions assignment.
