Amreekiyah made a powerful statement on her return to the races at Canterbury, storming home late to remain unbeaten in her third career start.
With 61kg on her back, the filly settled back in the field before unleashing a brilliant sprint to win the Broadsiding @ Darley Handicap (1250m) by half a length over O’Invincible ($14), justifying her short quote of $1.70 favourite.
Trainer Peter Snowden was thrilled with the performance, saying she had been giving off the right signals at home leading into the run.
“There is plenty more to come with her,” Snowden told Sky Racing.
“She is still very raw yet but she’s got so much potential.
“It was good to see her do something special because she has been showing for a while at home that she is a bit above average.”
The rising four-year-old filly returned to racing ahead of many spring horses, with Snowden hoping to raise her rating gradually and aim at higher honours.
“We brought her back for a reason at this time of year,” he said.
“We’re aiming for all those races but little steps first.”
Also on the Canterbury card, Kerber ($8.50), a sibling to dual Group 1 winner In Secret, broke through for her first win at start number two. She led throughout to hold off Miss Jones ($5.50) by a narrow margin.
Rider Jason Collett is confident Kerber has improvement to come.
“There’s definitely more there. She has still got a bit of growing up to do upstairs,” Collett said.
“Her mind isn’t completely on it yet, so when they’re doing it like that, that’s a sign there is more there to come.”
Later in the day, Chris Waller’s Skyglider delivered a debut victory in the Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1200m), leading home a stable trifecta for the champion trainer.
