Storm Boy set for Irish debut in Greenlands Stakes

Former Australian star Storm Boy will begin his European journey this weekend in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh, drawing the outside barrier in a field of nine for the 1207m contest.

The now Aidan O’Brien-trained son of Justify hasn’t been seen since finishing eighth in The Everest last spring but is set to resume in Ireland with Ryan Moore aboard. The race is a key lead-up to the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Storm Boy’s last Australian prep included victories in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and a third in the Golden Slipper. His Everest run earned him a Timeform 119, narrowly surpassing his 118 from the San Domenico Stakes win earlier that prep.

Rated equally with chief rival Lethal Levi, Storm Boy also faces in-form contenders like My Mate Alfie, Iberian, and Grand Grey, though none are currently prominent in Jubilee betting.

The Greenlands will be a key test ahead of Royal Ascot, where Storm Boy is priced at $8 with top UK bookmakers for the Jubilee, trailing market favourite Lazzat.

The Greenlands Stakes is set to jump at 12:05am AEST Sunday, with Moore looking to guide Storm Boy to a strong European debut.
