Ciaron Maher and Craig Williams will once again unite in pursuit of The Everest glory, with Godolphin confirming that classy filly Tempted will represent them in this year’s $20 million showpiece at Randwick.
The duo captured the 2024 edition with Bella Nipotina, and will now chase back-to-back victories when The Everest (1200m) is staged on October 18. Only one slot remains unclaimed, with Yulong Investments seeking a replacement after Private Harry was ruled out for the spring.
Tempted has been one of the standout fillies of her generation. A dual Group 2 winner as a juvenile, she finished third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) before returning this season to claim the Group 2 Run To The Rose and place behind stablemate Beiwacht in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
Her inclusion marks a continuation of Godolphin’s proud tradition in Australian racing, with the global powerhouse opting to support home-grown talent once again.
“Tempted is a top-class filly. She’s in great form and three-year-olds have a strong record in a race like The Everest,” said Godolphin Australia Managing Director Andy Makiv.
“She represents everything we stand for at Godolphin. She’s by one of our shuttle stallions, and was bred, raised, and developed across our farms. To see her line up in The Everest is a proud moment for everyone involved.”
With Maher’s conditioning expertise and Williams’ familiarity with Randwick, Tempted will enter The Everest as one of the key three-year-old chances in the field.
