Chris Waller has made it back-to-back wins in Wyong’s January feature, with Chica Mojito capturing the $500,000 Lakes Mile.
After winning the inaugural edition of the 1600-metre race in 2025 with Waterford, Waller again struck gold as Chica Mojito ($17) claimed just her second career success from 24 starts.
Given her record also includes 12 placings, among them an unlucky third in the Group 3 Belle Of The Turf (1600m) at Gosford on December 28, the victory was well deserved.
“She got a bit of traffic in the home straight but she’s been crying out for a win for a long time,” stable representative Darren Beadman said.
“She got the conditions right today. A good fast speed and presented well today.
“It was a good confident ride by Andy (Adkins).”
Chica Mojito defeated stablemate Mare Of Mt Buller ($14) by two lengths, with Gallant Star ($8.50) another three-quarters of a length away in third.
Beadman said Mare Of Mt Buller also ran well, but credited Adkins with delivering the winning ride.
Favourite Know Thyself ($2.35) was held up in the straight and could not finish strongly enough to feature in the placings.
Interest was strong across major online bookmakers for the Lakes Mile, which continues to grow in prestige.
Chica Mojito was originally slated for the Magic Millions Broodmare Sale in May last year but was retained and has since finished outside the placings just once.
