Yes Queen will be out to re-establish her status as a top Karrakatta Plate hopeful when she steps out again on Saturday, aiming to lock in a ride with star jockey William Pike.

The promising filly lost some of her early shine when she was rolled as the hot favourite in the Gimcrack Stakes (1000m), finishing second after doing the hard yards on the pace. That result propelled Luana Miss ahead of her in the Karrakatta Plate betting.

Yes Queen had been heavily spruiked following her explosive debut win in the Crystal Slipper Stakes (1100m) and an equally dominant six-length trial win.

Pike has a handful of talented fillies to choose from this year, including Snitzalatte, She’s Hot, God’s Rapture, and Elite Beau.

Although her last start wasn’t ideal, Pike remains confident in Yes Queen’s abilities and was encouraged by her determination in a tough race.

“I was still very happy with her,” Pike said on Tabradio.

“She still hung on and ran second and you could argue nothing went right.

“She jumped well and there was one with good speed that kicked underneath me.

“I was then just eye-balling another runner the whole way and to still hang on for second I think added merit to it.

“Other one-dimensional type of horses would have caved in and run last, and she didn’t, she stuck to her guns.

“I was really happy with it, I really thought she was going to compound and run worse than what she did.

“It’s up to the clever people with their stop watches whether they jump on or jump off, but I was happy with her.

“That run under her belt will do the world of good too and the edge will be off her.”

As it stands, Luana Miss is the $4.20 favourite for the Karrakatta Plate, with Yes Queen at $4.40, Talkanco at $4.80, and a trio of threats—God’s Rapture, She’s Hot, and Snitzalatte—priced between $7 and $8.50. Elite Beau is a longer shot at $11.
