Canterbury Races Tips, Best Bets and Race Previews – 2021

Canterbury will host Sydney’s midweek metropolitan meeting and six races are on the program.

The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range.

Race 1 – 2:00pm – XXXX Handicap, (1550m)

Green Flash can return to winning form in the first at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The Redoute’s Choice entire showed ability during his debut prep, and he resumed with a competitive effort for fourth, beaten a little more than two lengths at Randwick-Kensington late last month.

He’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that effort and is drawn to receive a lovely run.

Race 2 – 2:35pm – Precise Air Handicap, (1250m)

Norwegian Bliss puts an unbeaten record on the line at Canterbury on Wednesday, and I am confident that she can keep alive an unbeaten run of form.

The El Roca mare stamped herself as a runner to follow with an easy win on debut and franked the effort with another comfortable triumph in Class 1 company.

Fitter third-up, this does look the next logical step.

Race 3 – 3:10pm – Vinery Handicap, (1100m)

King Kapa hasn’t been seen at the races since May, but this is a drop in class for him and he can make a winning return.

The Capitalist colt charged in to score an easy win on debut at Grafton and was sent to the paddock after finishing fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic in Brisbane.

He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials in the lead-up to his return and he is my best bet of the day.

Race 4 – 3:50pm – Keeneland Handicap, (1250m)

It’s a pretty decent rise in class, but Mnementh has recorded two wins from as many starts since resuming and looks to be a genuine each-way chance in Race 4 at Canterbury this afternoon.

The Eurozone gelding scored a nice half-length victory at Wagga when fresh and made light work of them at Leeton last time out.

Fitter third-up, Mitch Beer wouldn’t bring him to town unless he thought he’s run well, and we can have an each-way play at the price.

Race 5 – 4:30pm – Benchmark 72 Handicap, (1900m)

I’m going to give Fortified another chance dropping back to the midweeks at Canterbury.

Fortified has had four starts back this time, winning at Doomben most notably, and he was far from disgraced in a Saturday race at Randwick last time out.

He steps out in peak condition on Wednesday and Glyn Schofield has options from the rails draw.

Race 6 – 5:10pm – Harry Angel @ Darley Handicap, (1100m)

This is a quality contest to end the program, but I think that Tiny is the runner to beat.

The Lonhro mare mixed her form in tougher races last time in, but she returned this time with an eye-catching effort for second, beaten less than a length by Six Again at Warwick Farm.

Her second-up record is excellent and she can build on that this week.
