Benedetta targets Sydney and Brisbane Group 1 races

After claiming her first Group 1 win in The Goodwood last autumn, trainer Jason Warren is setting Benedetta up for a campaign targeting major races in Sydney and Brisbane.

The five-year-old mare will first tackle the All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on April 19. While Warren acknowledges the strong competition, he is confident Benedetta can handle the distance, noting her ability to settle well. Her last start saw a second-place finish in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), where the Moonee Valley track wasn’t ideal.

Following Sydney, Benedetta will likely trial before heading to the Brisbane Winter Carnival, with the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and Kingsford Smith Cup on the horizon. The Stradbroke Handicap may also feature in her campaign.

Warren is steering Benedetta away from Perth’s The Quokka due to travel logistics and instead focusing on local riches. Though Royal Ascot made an offer for June, Warren prefers to target the five Group 1 races closer to home.
