Elite Beau, trained by Grant and Alana Williams, made a strong debut at Ascot on Wednesday, announcing himself as a promising prospect after winning his first start.
The $375,000 yearling, a son of Brazen Beau, was the $2.90 favourite and comfortably settled sixth before surging ahead in the straight under jockey William Pike’s guidance.
Elite Beau defeated Pygmalion by ¾ of a length, with Solar Chant finishing third, 1 ½ lengths behind. Brazen Butcher, another heavily backed runner, placed fifth.
Following the win, Tabtouch shortened his price for the $500,000 Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) on April 26 from $15 to $11.
Grant Williams expressed relief and praised the colt’s intelligence, adding, “He’s a quick learner” and confident he’ll continue improving. The Perth Stakes on April 12 is next in line before the Karrakatta Plate.
Pike, impressed with the colt’s performance, highlighted his raw ability and potential, noting, “He’s very raw and hasn’t a clue what he’s doing out there but obviously has natural ability.”
Elite Beau’s success also provided a boost for China Horse Club’s Perth venture, who purchased the colt in partnership with the Williamses and Suman Hedge Bloodstock at the 2024 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
