Freedman family affair at Rosehill races

The Freedman brothers will renew a familiar family rivalry at Rosehill on Saturday, with Michael, Richard and Anthony all represented in the same two-year-old contest.

The Bisley Workwear Handicap (1100m) has drawn ten acceptors, and the Freedman-trained runners will line up in the first three saddlecloths.

Michael Freedman’s Outspan, a Bivouac colt, resumes after running on well behind Magic Millions 2yo Classic contender Knightsbridge.

Richard Freedman, training alongside son Will, will debut Written In Munny, a Written Tycoon colt who impressed when winning his most recent trial.

Anthony Freedman and his son Sam are also represented by a Pinatubo colt out of Calliope, making him a half-brother to top-class filly Tempted.

Written In Munny was secured for $360,000 as a yearling and is out of the American Listed winner Always In The Munny, with Richard Freedman reflecting on the unique family dynamic.

“We’ve all had a runner in the same race before, but I don’t think it’s happened with first starters,” Freedman said.

Rain remains a factor heading into Saturday, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting up to 45mm, and Freedman said conditions would be monitored closely.

“I think the weather will play a part on whether that actually takes place,” Freedman said.

“We’re always sort of wary with that sort of stuff.

“He’s a nice horse. He’s fast, he’s got speed.

“He showed that in his trial, he’s just got to convert that to race performance.

“He was probably a little left in the tank, but he ran a second and a half quicker than any other trial, including group horses.

“He’s a nice horse, he can go on and he’ll probably be a better three-year-old.”

Punters can assess the Rosehill juvenile through major online bookmakers as race-day approaches.

Thyme To Go, trained by Annabel and Rob Archibald, is the early favourite after finishing runner-up to Knightsbridge on debut in the race won last year by Wodeton.
