The status of Warwoven for Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic is uncertain after the colt showed signs of lameness during routine veterinary checks on Friday.
As part of standard procedure ahead of the Gold Coast feature, Queensland stewards examined all runners on Friday morning and identified lameness in Warwoven’s off foreleg.
Bjorn Baker’s stable was dealt a second blow when Masvingo, who races in similar ownership, was also found to be lame in the near foreleg.
“Both runners will undergo a further examination tomorrow morning prior to scratching time,” Racing Queensland stewards confirmed.
The possible absence of Warwoven would dramatically reshape the 1200-metre contest, with the unbeaten colt having traded as short as $1.70 before concerns emerged.
The Sword Of State colt has dominated betting since his authoritative Eagle Farm victory on January 3, which came off the back of a commanding debut win at Randwick late last year.
Market movement is expected and bettors can monitor changes across reputable online bookmakers as scratching time approaches.
Zip Lock, an unbeaten Hellbent colt trained by Chris and Corey Munce, sits at $6 on the second line of betting, with Tornado Valley ($8) and Shiki ($11) close behind.
