Softer track Far Easier for stable star in Glasshouse Handicap

David McColm believes his stable star Far Too Easy is primed to return to form in Saturday’s Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast.

Despite a disappointing 14th-place finish in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), McColm is confident the firm Eagle Farm surface contributed to the underwhelming result.

“The track was really, really hard,” McColm said. “Regan Bayliss just said to me from the moment he jumped, he just didn’t feel comfortable. So those firm tracks, he does feel them, and we are very much aware of that.”

Encouragingly, Far Too Easy had run a strong second to War Machine prior to the Stradbroke and showed positive signs in a recent gallop at the Gold Coast.

“He came through it super. He’s pulled up really well, he’s well within himself. He had a gallop at the Gold Coast last Saturday and just went super,” McColm added.

McColm expects a softer surface on Saturday to bring out the best in the gelding. “That’ll suit him,” he said confidently.

Far Too Easy handed McColm the biggest win of his career when landing the $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200m) last year, but the horse won’t be eligible to compete this time due to a recent stable relocation to the Gold Coast.

“We’ve lost the entry into the Kosi with him which weighed heavily in our decisions, but the for and against it, we thought we’d be better off relocating,” McColm explained.

Far Too Easy is currently rated a $4.50 second favourite behind Warnie ($4.00) for Saturday’s feature race.
