In a unique twist for the Blue Diamond Stakes, Rosemont Stud and trainer Jason Warren are represented by both the youngest and oldest two-year-olds in the race.
Eden Rose, born on August 7, 2022, at Rosemont’s Gnarwarre farm, holds the title of the oldest contender, while stablemate Palm Angel, foaled 67 days later, is the youngest.
Warren, who has fielded only three two-year-olds this season, sees this as a major milestone for his small 30-horse operation.
“To have two runners in the Blue Diamond with such a small stable is a fantastic achievement,” Warren said. “We’re hoping to turn things around after our disappointment with Brooklyn Hustle, who was taken out of contention in a Diamond we thought she could win.”
Brooklyn Hustle finished a heartbreaking fifth in the 2019 edition of the race.
Palm Angel, the latest-born competitor in this year’s field, now faces a last-minute hurdle as Racing Victoria veterinarians flagged a gait issue during inspections. She will be reassessed before Saturday morning’s scratching deadline.
Elsewhere, Field Of Play and Cherish Me have passed rechecks and will race, while Icarian Dream has been ruled out.
A Palm Angel victory would see her become the fifth-youngest winner since 1978, joining an elite group of late-born champions.
