Well-related colt’s improved performance is expected

Roughly three hours before his accomplished older sister, Sheza Alibi, contends for a significant portion of $10 million in the Golden Eagle, Nomadic will be seeking a feature race triumph of his own in the Four Pillars Midway at Randwick.

Having achieved Group 3 placings as a two-year-old, the sibling to the star mare has displayed fluctuating form this preparation. This included a determined maiden win at Kembla Grange last month, followed by an unplaced finish in the Gloaming Stakes (1800m).

Sam Clipperton, who was aboard for both outings, indicated that he had anticipated a stronger showing from the colt last time out, affirming his belief in the horse’s capability for much better.

“I thought he had his chance to do a bit more. He took an inside run and wanted to hang badly, so I was disappointed in him in the Gloaming,” Clipperton stated.

“Especially with how well he was travelling. He presented to do more.

“If he can put his best foot forward, he’s quite a talented horse, but I’d be wanting to see an improved effort in his manners under pressure.”

Nomadic is the sole three-year-old participant in Saturday’s $500,000 race. The form from the Gloaming Stakes has been robustly supported, with the winner Proxima Dea since adding the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) to her accolades.

The John Thompson-trained runner is expected to face a less demanding field in Saturday’s race compared to his previous start. Considering Nomadic’s inconsistent form, Clipperton is hopeful that the colt is due for a standout performance on Saturday.

“He is a bit in and out, so maybe his pattern is good run-bad run, and maybe he’s due for a good run on Saturday,” he quipped.

Nomadic is currently rated a $21 chance in an open market for the Four Pillars Midway (1500m), with Alabama State being the $6.50 favourite.

Sheza Alibi continues her firm grip on the Golden Eagle (1500m) betting as a $1.80 favourite.
