After Torabella endured a punishing wide run in the Tails Stakes, trainer Tony Gollan is intent on giving the mare every chance to rebound in Saturday’s Members Mile.
The five-year-old was trapped three-deep throughout last start and weakened late despite being sent out a firm favourite. She returns to Eagle Farm rated a $7 hope with 54kg.
“She started favourite when there looked to be no speed at all last time,” Gollan said.
“Then, all of a sudden, they wanted to go flat out.”
Gollan noted that Torabella stuck on well enough to finish alongside Sibaaq, who franked the form by winning last weekend.
“She did way too much work early. I just want to see her get a more comfortable run,” he said.
Rain across Thursday and Friday could ease the track, which Gollan views as an advantage.
Miss Joelene, winner of the Tails Stakes, again lines up as the $2.75 favourite.
Gollan’s team also features a quartet in the Listed Falvelon Stakes (1500m), led by the evergreen Hidden Wealth ($3.90), who carries 60kg.
“Things didn’t pan out for him in the George Moore Stakes,” Gollan said. “He’s a class horse… I’d love some rain around.”
