Paradoxium’s Golden Coast mission is in jeopardy after the star juvenile was ruled out of the BJ McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm due to illness.
The colt travelled from Sydney overnight on Tuesday, but after settling in Brisbane, trainer Bjorn Baker confirmed the youngster had become unwell and was scratched from the Group 3 race.
The McLachlan was to serve as Paradoxium’s crucial final audition for the Magic Millions Classic (1200m), prompting betting markets to shift swiftly.
Bookmakers eased him from his $3.50 quote to $4, now equal favourite with stablemate Warwoven.
Baker will monitor Paradoxium closely before making the call on whether he takes his place in the $2 million feature on January 17.
With the favourite out, the spotlight switches to Tornado Valley, who has assumed McLachlan favouritism at $2.15 for the Maher stable.
Tornado Valley’s form includes a placing in the Debutant Stakes and a commanding win in the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington.
